Claude and LinkedIn: every conversation in your folder
Claude has no connector that reads your LinkedIn messages, and LinkedIn keeps its Messages API for approved partners. The route that never touches your account is LinkedIn's own data export: request it in your settings, drop the ZIP in your folder, and Claude Code reads every conversation and connection in it.
Connectors
My own system holds 3,082 LinkedIn conversations in one queue, beside 11,542 mails, 988 WhatsApp chats and 94 Telegram chats. It has run my business from one folder on my Mac since 22 July 2026, 1,629 jobs logged by 25 October. So I've looked hard for a clean way in.
On 27 October 2026 Claude's connector directory lists 1,022 connectors. One is made by LinkedIn: LinkedIn Hiring Pro, which drafts and posts one free job. The handful of others that name LinkedIn schedule posts or work on ads and analytics. None of the listings says it reads your messages.
LinkedIn's developer docs shut the other door. The Messages API is restricted to approved partners. The permissions any developer can switch on cover sign-in and posting. And even a partner may only send a message the member chose to send, at the moment they chose it. A scheduled or automated event doesn't count as the member's action.
Members whose profile is in the EU, EEA or Switzerland also get LinkedIn's portability APIs. The course doesn't use them… the export needs nothing but your settings page.
The export
Do it on a computer. LinkedIn says the feature isn't on mobile.
| Step | Where |
|---|---|
| 1 | The Me icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage |
| 2 | Settings & Privacy |
| 3 | Data Privacy, in the left rail |
| 4 | Download your data, under How LinkedIn uses your data |
| 5 | Tick the data you want, then Request archive |
Timing, from LinkedIn's help page: a single category is mailed within minutes, the larger download within 24 hours. Its own list puts messages and connections in the group marked 48 hours, and invitations in the 10-minute group. So ask a day or two before you need it. The link in the mail works for 72 hours. Miss it and you request again.
Tick Messages, every time. I once got an export with connections and invitations and no messages. It refreshed who I know and not a single conversation.
What's in it
Mine arrives as a ZIP of CSV files, one per category. Three of them do the work:
messages.csv· every message sent, received and archived, with the date, the subject, the text and the other person's profile URL.Connections.csv· every 1st-degree connection with first and last name, profile URL, company, position and the date you connected. An email address only appears when that person allows it in their privacy settings, so expect gaps.Invitations.csv· the requests you sent and received, with names, dates and the note.
LinkedIn gives you your own data. Who viewed your profile and People You May Know aren't in it.
In the folder
On Day 4 of the course you drop the ZIP in your folder and your Claude unpacks it. Then it reads, and you ask it things in plain English.
- Who you talked to, and when. Every conversation by date, with the last word on each side.
- Who went quiet. The threads where they wrote last and you never answered, and the ones where you wrote last and heard nothing back.
- One person, every channel. The same name matched across mail, LinkedIn and WhatsApp, so the 20 people who matter each come with their whole history and the last thing said.
- A reply in your words. Drafted from the thread and your tone, with the history attached. You copy it, open the conversation on LinkedIn, paste it and press send yourself.
Nothing in that loop signs in to LinkedIn. Claude reads a file you downloaded, and the sending is yours. Mail comes in through Claude's own Gmail connector instead, on Claude and Gmail.
Refreshing
The export is a snapshot. It's as fresh as the day you asked for it, and a message from this morning isn't in last week's file.
When you want the new ones in, request it again and drop the new ZIP beside the old one, then tell your Claude it's there. I'd ask once a week, and the day before any week of follow-ups.
That's the price of the safe route. No live feed. In exchange, nothing ever holds your login.
Automation tools
If you searched for this, you've seen the tools that sign in as you: browser extensions, cloud agents, scrapers. The course uses none of them.
LinkedIn's User Agreement forbids software, scripts, robots, crawlers and browser plugins that scrape or copy the site, including profiles. It also forbids bots or other unauthorised automated methods that access the site, add or download contacts, or send messages. Its help page on prohibited software says members who use such tools risk having their accounts restricted or shut down, and that the tools can stop working without notice.
Then there's the login itself. A tool that works as you holds your session, and whoever runs it can act on your account. Your network took years. An extension saves you an afternoon.
The export is LinkedIn's own feature, in your own settings. That's the whole reason the course uses it. More on the rest of the build on AI chief of staff.
Questions
Can Claude access my LinkedIn?
Not live. On 27 October 2026 no listing in Claude's connector directory says it reads LinkedIn messages, and LinkedIn restricts its Messages API to approved partners. Claude Code reads the data export you download from your own settings, which holds every conversation and connection.
Can Claude send LinkedIn messages for me?
In the course, no. It drafts the reply in your words with the history attached, and you paste it into LinkedIn and press send. Even LinkedIn's approved partners may only send a message the member chose to send.
How long does the LinkedIn data export take?
LinkedIn says a single category is mailed within minutes and the larger download within 24 hours, while its list puts messages and connections in the 48-hour group. The download link works for 72 hours.
Is the export safe for my account?
It's LinkedIn's own feature on your own settings page. Nothing signs in as you and nothing touches the site after you download the file. LinkedIn asks you to download it on a personal computer, never a public one.
Which Claude plan do I need?
Pro, at $20 a month billed monthly. Claude Code is included in every paid plan, and the export route needs no API key and no server.
Day 4 of the course sets this up on your laptop, from the export to your first list of people.
